The final of is a repeat of last year, when Vickerstown ran out 2-0 winners thanks to goals from Andrew Butler and Mark Johnson.

Furness Premier League champions Vickerstown booked their place in the final with a comfortable 4-1 semi-final win over Askam reserves, while Bootle needed penalties to overcome Dalton reserves.

Vickerstown will go into the game as favourites, but Bootle, having reached several cup finals in recent seasons, may be due a change of fortune.

There is another final tonight, with Askam United reserves tackling GSK Ulverston Rangers reserves for the right to lift the Furness Junior Cup. The final will be played at Longlands Park, home of Crooklands Casuals (6.30pm kick-off).

Askam have come good after a slow start to the season and went close in Division One, before losing out on the final day of the season to SDO. Their goals have mainly come from Daniel Sharp and former GSK player Craig Muncaster.

GSK have also improved since Christmas and have been in great goalscoring form of late, moving up to finish third in Division Two. Steve Errington, plus youngsters Matty Lawler and James Pinnegor, have been scoring for fun, with the experienced Wayne Sargent pulling the strings in midfield.

Askam reserves will feature in a second final on Wednesday when they take on Division Two champions Barrow Wanderers in the Horne Cup, again at Longlands Park (6.30pm kick-off).

Wanderers were reinstated into the competition after Vickerstown A were expelled for playing ineligible players in the semi-final.

It was a genuine error by Vickerstown rather than anything devious, but the Furness Premier League committee were duty-bound to apply the rules.

Wanderers have already beaten Askam in a cup competition this season, but were themselves expelled after their 2-0 win in the Furness Junior Cup because they hadn’t registered their players.

Sean Darby and Dean Crossman have both terrorised defences this season, while Jasper Carey is dangerous in an attacking midfield role.

All local sides playing West Lancs League football are safe in their respective divisions for next season. In midweek, Dalton United lost 4-1 at Freckleton and Vickerstown went down 6-1 against Charnock Richard, both in the Premier Division. In Division One, Crooklands Casuals went down 4-2 at Trimpell and Slyne.

Have your say

Wanderers were reinstated into the competition after Vickerstown A were expelled ??????????????? thats wrong sorry it was askam that where reinstated :) we got through to the final on merit not by getting a bye because of a clerical error :)
