FANS of Postman Pat got a chance to meet him when he visited the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway.
Children travelling on the La’al Ratty at the weekend could meet the much-loved character and his cat, Jess, at the miniature railway’s Dalegarth terminal.
Twelve trains carrying up to 120 passengers transported families from Ravenglass to Dalegarth on Saturday and Sunday.
As well as being able to meet Pat and Jess, children could have their faces painted and watch entertainer Stu-di-doo. Richard Coppingdon, marketing manager for the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, said: “This is the event’s third year, it goes down well.
“It’s an excellent way to get children out and about and it goes down quite well with the parents, too.”
Michelle Whalley, of Ulverston, attended the event with her two sons.
She said: “One is five, the other is 18 months. The littlest one loves Postman Pat so we had to come.”
David Jenner, administration manager for the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, said: “It’s very popular. We have done a number of themed events and the Postman Pat weekend is second only to Thomas the Tank Engine. On Saturday morning, the trains were extremely full but I think a certain football game might have been the reason things quietened off.
He added that Sunday was expected to be much busier.
Kate Norman travelled from Lancaster with three-year-old son Alex, for the event.
She said: “I’ve been on the Ratty before but this is Alex’s first time. He was really excited, it’s just the right size for him, he loves Postman Pat.”
