Lancs a lot for a fine celebration

SCORES of residents and tourists gathered in South Lakeland at the weekend for Lancashire Day.
The Lancashire Proclamation was read aloud in Grange and Ulverston to mark the annual event.
Similar celebrations were held in towns throughout Lancashire.
It was organised by the Friends of Real Lancashire – a group set up to boost pride in the county.
The proclamation in Ulverston was read by town crier Peter Winston at the Market Cross on Sunday, November 28.
It followed a special Lancashire evening in the Kings Head pub, in Market Street, on Saturday night.
Mr Winston said: “A lot of people heard the proclamation on Sunday morning which is great.
“Not many people are aware that this area remains part of the Red Rose County and is simply administered by Cumbria.”
Town crier Mike Wilding read the charter outside The Sands pub in Grange’s Main Street on Saturday, November 27.
Jan Ainsworth, Friends of Real Lancashire secretary and Grange resident, said it had been an exciting weekend.
“Like the rest of the county of Lancashire, the events in Grange and Ulverston went really well.
“We had a lot of people turning up to hear the proclamation as well as passers by who were interested in listening to it. It shows that the pride in Lancashire as a county north of the sands is still burning strong.”
