A prime number

Today was a great, and to some, unexpected day for Ulverston and the surrounding areas, as the actual Prime Minister himself turned up in Ulverston, discussing the great news that GlaxoSmithKline had been selected for lots of investment and so should soon be creating hundreds of local jobs.

Great news! A truly great day for Ulverston and Cumbria, and a credit to a company in the UK that's actually doing alright. (miraculous these days, I know!). True, the jobs may not actual come about for several years, and there was obviously party politics at play, but ah so what...it's still great news that we all can enjoy.

Although I do feel sorry for those who have previously been made redundant etc. by GSK, at least some companies are re-hiring and/or creating new jobs. It's not all doom and gloom. And our very own Prime Minister himself, David Cameron, even came to say hi to everyone and share the good news. I'll leave it up to yourself to imagine his reasons. But whatever the case, it's good to see the actual PM here in Cumbria, as I can't remember that happening many times, if ever, in my lifetime! A rare sight indeed.

Let's hope it leads to better things too, with local investment which also helps people around the world. I could list the negatives about bribes and dodgy drug companies, but there's little point. We should all be proud and celebrating. Let's just hope it's the start of things to come!

I wonder what David thought of the quaint little town as he arrived on-site. It's certainly not his usual neck of the woods, that’s for sure! Let's hope it's not the first and last time, Love him or hate him, any visit by any PM is surely a good thing for the town, and he's right...confidence is always welcome and a good thing. Now let's roll up our sleeves and try and win some more contracts and get some more business. After all, although we can't change everything, some of us can make a difference, and we should always remember that. It doesn't always have to be doom and gloom, some of us can make a difference, and with passion and a little help (and luck), this is how great companies can form and grow.

What do we all think? Happy to see David in Ulverston? comment away everyone.

I was in town as Cameron was at Glaxo and there did seem to be a good feeling about the place. The news about Glaxo can only be good for the town. And as you say, whaetever people think of him, a visit from the Pm has got to be a good thing.
