IT was a week of birthdays at South Lakes Wild Animal Park this week, as the zoo celebrated turning 15 years old. Visitors turned out in force to enjoy the celebrations going on at the park during May half-term. And Thursday May 28- the day the park opened all those years ago- was extra special because it was also Chippy the spider monkey’s birthday. The keepers gave Chippy extra treats to help him celebrate in style. The were also parties for kangaroos and lemurs who had their birthdays this week, too. Another birthday coming up next week is going to be extra-special because it is baby rhino Nyala’s first birthday My pals at the zoo are keeping the details of the surprise under wraps until Nyala turns one on Monday, but I am told it will be something spectacular. She will also be getting her very own rhino-friendly birthday cake. But it won’t be the icing, jam and cream you clubbers are used to! The keepers are busy preparing the cake, filling it with rhino-friendly food. My zoo watch spy tells me that the park gave her a pumpkin at Halloween and she ate it all up, so I am sure she’ll do the same with her birthday treat. draw a picture of the new ducks and geese on the lake.
